The Carlson Homestead Blends Fresh Style With a Farmhouse Feel

When Lance and Uyen Carlson started shopping around for a new home two years ago, they had one major thing on their must-have list: Lots and lots of space. But as the East Valley continues to rapidly grow, finding enough space posed to be a problem—until they came across this home in south Gilbert.

“I fell in love with all of its potential,” says Uyen, who is the owner of a children’s clothing brand called Crew & Lu. “I could envision my family growing in that space with the dream of having animals and lots of room for the kids to play.”

The home had good bones but it needed some love, and the Carlsons were up for the challenge. While they hired contractors to help them with the bigger projects, like the kitchen, Lance did a lot of the heavy work while Uyen focused on the style and design aspects.

“My favorite part was being able to choose finishes I love and see it all come together,” she says.

When selecting furniture for the home, Uyen chose pieces that were not only beautiful, but intentional and functional.

“The memories are what make the home,” she says, “but the little touches around the house that are sentimental to me are also important.”

What’s next? They’re currently in the process of designing a workspace studio/barn on their property that will have a small kitchen and loft area—a perfect getaway for their family and friends.

LIVING ROOM:

”My favorite room is our living room. We have a beautiful view of the backyard and pasture and the fireplace is such a focal point. But mostly I love what happens inside this space—our kids laughing and playing and cuddles on the couch while we watch our favorite shows.”

KITCHEN:

”My favorite feature is my farm sink. It’s so practical and it’s in my second favorite room. The kitchen is a core place for us to gather and connect over good meals and conversation.”
