Stylist Secrets for Your Body Type
It was an overcast day when I met several ladies at Desert Soul Boutique in Ahwatukee for a private shopping session and photo shoot. As a personal stylist, I love helping people find the perfect outfits for their unique body types.
With her bust being slightly smaller than her hips, Caitlin has what I would call a “low-contrast” body type. This adorable Tart jumpsuit has a flowing top to balance out the fullness of her hips. I love the low-contrast print that flatters and mirrors her hair-skin-eyes combo. I paired this with nude heels and added a pair of Perverse sunglasses. Elizabeth was looking for something fun and foxy for her birthday trip to Vegas. I love these Moon River linen shorts for her hourglass figure. Her bust and hip measurements match and she is smaller around the waist, so an excellent option is to find something with a high waist that will highlight her figure. This stunning Veronica M top complements the shorts and it’s tucked in to reveal the adorable tied waist. The crisscross front on the top reinforces that hourglass figure. Heels were a must with this outfit, so we added a pair of heeled sandals from her closet. (Bandeau: Free People; Blouse: Veronica M; Shorts: Moon River; Heels: Client’s own)
Starr was excited for me to help her get out of her “yoga pants & T-shirt” rut! She measures bigger around the bust than her hips, so she has an inverted pyramid shape. For a casual look, this soft and stretchy Tart top—with a built-in shelf bra—epitomizes being comfortable while looking chic! It was matched with embroidered jeans to complete the look. The black on top minimizes a larger bust and the hemline draws attention to her natural waist without the top having to be form fitting. Alysha needed a versatile dress that can go from day to night. This Tart Collection’s dress was perfect! Alysha has a pear shape body type, meaning her bust line is smaller than her hips, so she wanted to learn how to achieve a more balanced look. With the off-the-shoulder sleeves, this dress adds volume on top to balance out her more curvy hips. We added Perverse shades and grabbed a sun hat for some additional shade. Going from day to night is so easy—put on heels and some statement jewelry and you’re date-night ready in a snap! With her dark hair and eyes contrasting her lighter skin, Alicia is a great example of a “high contrast” type. Because of this, I chose this stunning maxi dress. The bold print doesn’t overwhelm her because the darks and lights mimic her contrast level. She wears this dress, and not the other way around. We kept the accessories simple and let the dress be the statement piece. She felt so elegant and comfortable in this dress! Amy is petite and has an athletic body type. Her bust, waist and hip measurements are all very close together. She needed a sundress to go from day to night, so as soon as I laid eyes on this Gypsy05 dress, I knew it would be perfect for her. The flattering triangular neckline makes her bust appear slightly more full and the flowy nature of the dress gives volume and feminine appeal. The sun hat and boots were perfect for a lunch with the girls, but she could also throw her hair up and put on some heels for a stunning night out look.
