A Summer Love Story

Young love was in the air when Karen Wamback Trezza posted on Facebook with a rather odd request. Her son, Gabe, was head-over-heels for his classmate named Reagan and wanted to invite her to his birthday party, but Wamback didn’t know how to find the girl. Facebook came to the rescue when she posted a request looking for the girl with a “cute smile and crooked tooth.” It only took minutes before Courtney Erickson saw the post and replied, “REAGAN IS MY DAUGHTER!!!!!!” With the help of their moms, the two young lovebirds were reunited soon after and, yes, Reagan attended Gabe’s birthday party in July!

Never Bend Down to Pick Up
a Dog Bowl Again

Does your pet make a mess at meal time? Imagine never cleaning up spilled kibble or water off of the floor again! Invented by a pet owner, the Reachabowl has a tall rim around its base that stops dog food and water from spilling onto the floor, even if an owner or pets bump into it. The Reachabowl has a tall handle so that an owner can pick it up from the floor without having to bend down, making it perfect for aging pet lovers or those with mobility issues. The handle comes off with a simple twist and all parts are dishwasher safe. The ReachaBowl comes in three sizes and is guaranteed for life. Learn more at ReachaBowl.com.

Water Quality Report Confirms
Safety and Quality of Chandler Water

The results of Chandler’s annual drinking water quality report confirm that the city continues to supply its residents and businesses with drinking water that meets or exceeds all state and federal water-quality standards including low levels of lead and copper. Since 1999, water suppliers have been required to provide Consumer Confidence Reports (water quality reports) on an annual basis. The report details where Chandler’s water comes from, what it contains and how the city’s water quality compares to regulatory standards. Chandler supplies more than 55 million gallons of high-quality drinking water per day to residential, business and industrial customers. The city receives its water from the Salt River, Verde River, Central Arizona Project (Colorado River) and city wells. Results can be found in the water quality report posted online at ChandlerAZ.gov/WaterQuality.

ICAN Honors Henry Salinas
Society Heroes

ICAN: Positive Programs for Youth in Chandler recently honored their Henry Salinas Society Heroes for 2017. The Henry Salinas Society Heroes award is named for ICAN’s founder, Henry Salinas. Henry founded ICAN in 1991—he was a concerned citizen who wanted a safe place for kids to go after school to prevent the gang violence that was becoming rampant in the downtown area. This award recognizes outstanding members of HSS who have passionately devoted their time, talent and/or treasure to improve the lives of children and their families over the past year. Nominations for the award are accepted from the membership and are reviewed by a blind panel to determine the winners each year. This year’s honorees include: Individual Honoree: Brandon Bagley, Owner of AlphaGraphics Chandler/Gilbert/Scottsdale; Business Co-Honoree: Chandler Police Department; and Business Co-Honoree: Intel.

Critical Red Cross Blood
Shortage Prompts Emergency
Call for Donations

The American Red Cross is facing a critical blood shortage and is issuing an emergency call for eligible blood and platelet donors of all blood types to give now and help save lives. Blood donations have fallen short of expectations for the past two months, resulting in about 61,000 fewer donations than needed and causing a significant draw down of the Red Cross blood supply. To schedule an appointment to donate, use the free Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1.800.RED.CROSS (1.800.733.2767). Donation appointments and completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire are encouraged to help reduce the time it takes to donate.

Arizona Helping Hands Fulfills 12-Year-Old’s Birthday Dream

A 12-year-old newly placed foster child received her very first birthday celebration thanks to Arizona Helping Hands, a nonprofit organization providing assistance to foster families in the Valley. As You Wish Chandler donated the facility, NYPD Pizza donated the food and Piece of Cake Desserts created a custom cake. To make a great day even better, the young girl received a birthday bicycle and other gifts, in addition to spending time with her two teenage sisters for the day. Arizona Helping Hands sponsors a program called Birthday Dreams, which has already provided customized birthday gift packages to 500 children in 2017.
