Acupuncture has been used for centuries to treat a wide range of conditions in humans, and it is becoming more common in veterinary hospitals. This form of holistic medicine originated in China and involves placing very slim, sterile needles into specific points of the body to create a healing response. Medical-based acupuncture can be used alone or in conjunction with other treatment modalities, such as laser therapy and medications, to increase its positive results. Dogs and cats of all ages and health conditions can benefit from it. Some typical conditions include spinal cord injury, arthritis, post-surgical pain, digestive disorders, skin conditions and immune dysfunction.
