Smokin Fins Debuts Its First Arizona Location
After just two months of being open, word is out that Smokin Fins is a great place for delicious seafood, fresh sushi and amazing smoked meats. The concept started five years ago by three friends who had ties to Boise, Idaho, and took their years of restaurant experience to create a great selection of food choices at affordable prices in an inviting, relaxing atmosphere. The Chandler location is the first for Arizona, with others in Colorado and Idaho.
Executive Chef Wiley Earl is responsible for the wide variety of unique items on the menu—as well as having an influence on the daily chalkboard specials that are served in all the Fins Group locations. He brings with him a vast amount of experience, having studied under world-renowned chefs, and has the talent to create winning combinations that produce savory entrees. His love for cooking spills over to every meal prepared.
“I want every dish to be a true culinary adventure,” says Earl.
You will find only high-quality items purchased and sourced locally, whenever possible, on the menu. The Sterling Salmon comes from the pristine Pacific waters off British Columbia where only 5 percent of the hand-selected salmon meets strict criteria. The wagyu Angus beef and pork comes from Snake River Farms in Idaho where they have incorporated a Japanese method of raising animals who produce extremely tender and flavorful meats.
Operating Partner Nate Ingersoll is definitely passionate about what he does. He was with the Fins Group for two-and-a-half years in Idaho before opening the Chandler location, and brings vast experience in the restaurant industry.
“From your first impression to your last visit, we strive to make each experience unique and enjoyable for our guests,” Ingersoll says.
Something for Everyone
Smokin Fins wants every one of their guests to have fun, whether they’re hanging out on the front patio enjoying happy hour or catching the latest game at the bar or attending a lunch meeting with a client. The menu has something for everyone—offerings such as fresh sushi, seafood platters, crisp salads and delicious burgers.
My dining adventure began with the key lime calamari appetizer. The calamari is from Town Dock in Point Judith, Rhode Island, and nationally recognized as the only squid labeled “Green Best Choice.” The high-quality calamari has a buttery flavor and is lightly breaded and served with the flavorful key lime aioli. Another great option is the stuffed lobster avocado, which has a delicious lobster crab salad perched on half an avocado. Both offer amazing flavors making them guests’ favorites.
The moist Colorado buffalo burger is charbroiled on a cedar plank and topped with melted smoked Gouda cheese and herb mushrooms. It’s served with loaded mashed potatoes and a roasted corn and spinach medley. A very generous portion and a delicious meal make this a winner! Save room for the scrumptious homemade bread pudding dessert that’s served with vanilla ice cream and an awesome bourbon caramel sauce. Large enough to share and so yummy that on most nights, they run out.
You’ll want to go on your own culinary taste journey as there are so many amazing choices that you’ll find yourself returning to try a new item like the lobster stuffed deviled eggs, smoked bison meatballs, sea scallops and seared ahi, sushi rolls, mango shrimp tacos and slow-smoked pork items. And don’t forget the kids! Their special menu has six items with a side and drink for only $4.99.
A must-try is an Icetini, even if you are not a martini drinker. This unique drink comes in an ice-molded glass that keeps it chilled and allows the ice to drip to the bottom without diluting the drink. It’s so refreshing!
Yes, Smokin Fins is a destination meant to be shared and not to be missed!
