REDEVELOPING THE GIVING SPIRIT 1

Michael Pollack continues to give back to the communities he has helped build over the years by continuing his holiday light display tradition.

Mark your calendars because you will not want to miss one of the most magical and best holiday light shows in the East Valley.  At 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, Michael Pollack will flip the switch for more than a half-million twinkling lights at the Pollack Tempe Cinemas.

Fifteen years ago, Pollack started this holiday light display outside Pollack Corporate Headquarters in Mesa with 100,000 lights.  About seven years ago, it was moved to the entire Pollack Tempe Cinema Shopping Center, where the Cinema is located.  Inspired by Disneyland’s Magical Display, the mega display now boasts over 500,000 LED lights and 30 animatronics and figurines.

“We’re big believers in energy efficiency,” said Pollack. “LED is both cost-effective and draws less amps, increasing the brightness of our show but decreasing operating expenses and the wattage used.”

From 7-10pm that night you can also enjoy watching classic Christmas favorites absolutely FREE!  Seating is limited, so be sure to check out the schedule for movie times and get there early.  The weekend before Christmas, Santa Claus will be present so bring the kids and your cameras for a complimentary photo opportunity.

Pollack adds, “Families wait all year to take their family holiday photos in front of our displays and we love the opportunity to help them celebrate the season rather than commercializing it.”

Don’t let the words “discount theater” mislead you.  In 2014, Michael Pollack, owner of Pollack Tempe Cinemas and President and Founder of Michael A. Pollack Real Estate Investments, upgraded the theater with surround sound and state-of-the-art digital video.  His six theaters received comfortable new seating and refinished floors.  Not only is the everyday, all-day admission price only $3, concession items cost less than traditional theaters, including the popcorn and soda.  In addition to great second-run movies, the halls of the cinema are filled with signed memorabilia, movie posters, and life-size wax figures of many of Hollywood’s favorite icons that Pollack has collected over the years.

The Cinema has afforded this community leader a unique way to reach out to residents of the East Valley. While the holiday light display is the largest event at the cinema, others offered at the theatre throughout the year range from free movies for Veterans on Veterans Day to a Halloween Costume contest at the end of October.

“I keep pushing myself as long as there are still challenges,” says Pollack. “My goal and my strategy is to continue to do what we are doing, and that is to make positive changes in our communities, both through the impact of our redevelopment and repositioning work in real estate, and also to work with the many different organizations that we help support in order to give back to help make this world a better place.”
